The Squirrel's Spring
This art work was inspired by the squirrel community living in the Iveagh Gardens in Dublin. The original idea was to place this scene on the green lawn of the garden. Only when I arrived home and going through all the photos this quick snapshot of Harcourt street became the canvas.
Harcourt street was named after Lord Simon Harcourt, a former Lord Lieutenant of Ireland 1772-76.
This fine Georgian street is largely intact and leads away from St Stephen’s Green. Only a little over 0.6km in length but bursting with character and charm.
🐿 Red squirrels have furry coats of a reddish brown with fur surrounding their ears.
🐿 They prefer coniferous forests but can create a habitat in a mixed environment of woodland, large gardens and parks.
🐿 Red Squirrels habits of hording nuts and seeds are important to the ecosystem of forests as this activity spreads tree seeds over large areas.
🐿 The importance of this is reflected in its protection under Irish legislation.
